Artist Zhang Xiao used Coastline to present not only a new idea of photography, but the on-going drive for urbanization and economic growth of China while the spiritual life of the people stagnates.  Xiao's idea of "coastline" is more than just a line between land and sea. Coastline is a concept of "betweenness" as a result of people's activities within, which creates a scene of continuity between land and sea.  Xiao observes reality with a warm sentiments with a vivid concept of life through images of people along the sea.
