함께 - HAMKKEH by Lauren Hana Chai & Ashley Wells

함께 - Hamkkeh means ‘Together’ in Korean. Korean-American painter Lauren Hana Chai and ceramic sculptor Ashley Wells have come together in an unconventional way bringing their unique individual styles and collaboration pieces which were kept raw via omitting communication on the process and rather focusing on creating intuitively. With a challenge so unique, these sculptures showcase the different perspectives and stories they have when looking at the same piece.

Lauren Hana Chai's work is an exploration of many concepts, many of where Eastern and Western identities clash. Her paintings are framed by classical models of the Renaissance, colored in between with expressions of Neo-Confucianism, sexually engaged figures, and the Korean cultural concept of 'han'.

As a ceramicist and sculptor, Ashley Wells' sculptures consider material, form, and function, resulting in an engagement of charming and subtle banter as they playfully live amongst the backdrop of a home space. Her work aims to inspire and spark imagination in the daydreamers. With her work, she is focused on maintaining the integrity of the clay by featuring the natural elements, welcoming a bit of nature inside.

함께 - Hamkkeh will be on view until March 26th. at BāS Bookshop.
